Volvo Construction Equipment and its official dealer in Russia, Ferronordic Machines, will support the 45th WorldSkills Competition, which will take place in Kazan on 22-27 August 2019. The company will provide Volvo EC55 compact excavators and Volvo L20 loaders for the Maintenance of Heavy Equipment skill competition #49. Fifteen young competitors will be striving for the victory.

While Volvo Construction Equipment manufactures high-tech equipment, its efficiency largely depends on the professional skill set of the operators and maintenance personnel.  Volvo CE is constantly struggling with a shortage of competent staff in its industry, which makes improving the quality and reputation of vocational skills one of its top priorities.

“Most parents today still dream of higher education for their children, and employers unanimously claim a huge shortage of blue-collar workers,” says Victoria Fomina, head of marketing at Volvo Construction Equipment in Russia and the CIS. “This is due to many years of stagnation in the vocational education and the prevailing attitude towards a blue-collar worker in Russia.”

In an effort to improve the situation, Volvo CE supports projects such as WorldSkills youth competitions aimed at improving the skills of service specialists and construction equipment operators, as well as at promoting vocational professions.

“We were delighted to support the finals of the 7th WorldSkills Russia Championship and are now a Gold Partner of WorldSkills Competition in Kazan,” says Victoria Fomina, head of marketing at Volvo Construction Equipment in Russia and the CIS. “WorldSkills competitions form a respectful attitude to the vocational education, give young professionals a chance to prove themselves and show that by constantly improving their skills, they can become world-class competitive experts. The support of these events by large companies indicates that the market is interested in competent specialists in vocational professions. Volvo CE is also planning to discuss a possible partnership with WorldSkills in the CIS member nations.”

The 45th Worldskills Competition will be held with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, as well as the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation. Since its foundation in 1950 the international association WorldSkills have been organizing the competition, in which participate 77 countries.

WorldSkills hosts competition every two years. Kazan won the right to host it in 2019. Also, Paris, France and Charleroi, Belgium were bidding for the right to hold the сompetition. More than 1600 young professionals from around the world will gather in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan to compete for victory in one of 56 skills in various fields of production — from floristry to hairdressing; and woodwork to autobody repair. Moreover, the Competition also provides leaders in industry, government, and education with the opportunity to exchange information and best practices regarding industry and professional education
